Difficult Zero-G Scenes
Variety recently chatted with a few of the ‘Ender’s Game’ cast members and a few other CinemaCon honorees. For the first time in a long while, we hear Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, and Hailee Steinfeld chat a little bit about their roles in the ‘Ender’s Game’ movie.
Colonel Graff actor, Harrison Ford, tells Variety that ‘Ender’s Game’ is nothing we’ve seen on the big screen before. “It’s just a whole different canvas — no replicants — and character and world view,” Ford says.
‘Ender’s Game’ star, Asa Butterfield, called ‘Ender’s Game’ one of the best scripts he’s heard and details the difficulties of shooting the zero-gravity scenes. “It was the best script I’d read, and I thought how much fun it would be to be in zero gravity with laser guns […] All the wire stuff is difficult. Floating up there, you need a strong core so you don’t look lie you’re in a harness. I’d go home completely sore after a day in harnesses.”
Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the strong-willed soldier Petra Arkanian, spoke about her eagerness to work with actors her own age in ‘Ender’s Game.’ She says, “At that point I’d wanted to work with kids my age, and was looking forward to it […] The catch is that they were all boys, so it was 3½ months with a bunch of guys, which is not a bad thing.”
