Tony Mirrcandani Cast as Admiral Charmrajnagar in Ender’s Game Movie

IMDb Lists New Role

The Ender’s Game IMDb page lists a new cast member; it lists Tony Mirrcandani’s role as Admiral Charmrajnagar, a prominent member of the International Fleet (IF). Recall that IMDb can be edited by the general public with a paid membership and that this information has not been confirmed with the production company, although we’re pretty confident in this news.

Mirrcandani’s credits includes When Harry Tries to a Marry and a few others, as well as a successful run in New York theater. You can read more about his on his website.

What do you all think, does he look like the Admiral Charmrajnagar you imagined?

Tidbits From Ender Producer Roberto Orci

Roberto Orci on Involvement with OSC, Sequels, and Faithfulness to the Original Story

RobertoOrciOver at a talkback on a post at Aint It Cool News covering the Ender’s Game Production Blog, Ender producer Roberto Orci stopped by to answer a few questions, and to make some comments of interest:

“We have been in meaningful contact with Mr. Card. He is as smart as his book indicates. He has been a great resource for us in every way.”

“Sequels are tricky. For one, we never like to count on sequels until they hatch. On the other hand, Card has written so much awesome material in this universe that there is much to figure out. Hope we get the chance.”

“When adapting something so beloved You gotta make sure you keep the soul of it intact while doing what is necessary to translate to live action. I know that’s not much of an answer, but i can tell you that we are treating the book preciously.”

QUESTION: What are your feelings on the Shadow books and the Speaker books? Do you feel it’s possible to adapt both to the screen, or do you think the latter series would be too difficult, disconnected and abstract for audiences? I’m not asking what Summit’s plans for the franchise are – I just think it would be interesting to know what you think.

ROBERTO ORCI: Certain elements may lend themselves well to adaptation.

How do you feel about how the production is going based on what you’ve seen and heard by those involved?

Orson Scott Card Respondes to Ender’s Game Pornographic Allegations

Talk to Your Children

Last week we brought you a story about one parent’s fight to keep Ender’s Game out of the classroom. Ender’s Game author, Orson Scott Card spoke out on the Doug Wright Show earlier this week.

Card says, “The charge of pornography on this is as far as I know not actually leveled against Ender’s Game, or if it is it’s then that’s an obvious mistake because the teacher actually read some material that I would have actually been disturbed by if so teacher were reading it to my kids.” He adds, “It has nothing to do with Ender’s Game.”

“There’s nothing in ‘Ender’s Game’ that they are not completely familiar with,” On the use of certain bad language in Ender’s Game, “These kids are 14- year-olds in South Carolina. I know for a fact it is impossible that they aren’t hearing those words at least once a week, if not every day.”

Card points out that no matter what book is being read, parents should to talk to their children about the material they’re reading. You can listen to Doug Wright’s full interview with Orson Scott Card here. Since this interview, the Aiken Standard says the teacher will not face criminal charges.

Rumor: Crazy Tom Cast in Ender’s Game Movie

Set Insider Reports

One set insider reports that crew members on the set of Ender’s Game have referenced a particular young man in connection with the role of “Crazy Tom” repeatedly. Up until now, there has been no mention that Crazy Tom was included in this version of the Ender’s Game movie.

Recall that in the book, Crazy Tom is a British soldier who has the reputation of being the most traded soldier in battle school without actually getting iced, until he becomes a toon leader in Ender’s Dragon Army. Crazy Tom later become a key player in the Third Invasion.

Our set insider has given the name of an actor associated with Crazy Tom’s role, but we’re waiting to confirm it with Summit Entertainment before we publish. Please let us know if you have any further information. Also, speculate away in the comments!

Official Behind the Scene’s Ender’s Game Movie Blog Launches

One Post and More to Come!

Here it is (finally) http://endersgameblog.tumblr.com/. This blog will be a personal blog by producer Robert Orci (with Oddlot, Summit, Digital Domain, and KO), from behind the scenes of the Ender’s Game Movie. Robert Orci says it will be updated every Wednesday. The first post read,

“It took us all a second to realize Asa was right when he said Ender’s Gamewas an amazing book from ‘the late 1900s.’  We use that phrase all the time now, like, ‘Clinton was President in the late nineteen hundreds!’  Most of us read Ender’s Game when we were young and wondered when it would become a movie.  We never dreamed then that we would all be part of the team to bring it to the screen, nor did we realize the novel’s description of our world would be so prescient that its vision would still be unfolding before our very eyes today. And now, watching Asa bring a character to life who has been on our minds since our youth, we realize things happen for a reason.  We were waiting for him.  Make yourself comfortable, Ender! “

Major Anderson Gets A First Name

Female First Name

We reported a while back that Major Anderson was cast as a woman and that ‘The Help’ actress, Viola Davis would fill that role. If you head over the Ender’s Game IMDb page you’ll notice that Viola Davis’s character has been labeled Major Gwen Anderson. We can’t be 100% sure since  IMDb can be edited by the general public with a paid membership, but we’re pretty confident that this is accurate information.

What do you think, do you trust IMDb?

Rumor: Pol Slattery Cast in Ender’s Game Movie

Meet the Commander of Leopard Army

EnderNews.com reports that an anonymous tip has informed them that 17-year-old Cameron Gaskins has been cast as Pol Slattery. Gaskins has only one acting credit to his name, The Greening of Whitney Brown. The tip suggests that the role was originally written as Rose the Nose but was later changed to include Slattery. You can see Gaskins to the left.
